CALKE ABBEY, NR TICKNALL, DERBYSHIRE, Thursday 29 April 2004

START POINT: Staff of Life, High Street, Ticknall, Derbyshire Tel: 01332 862479

DIRECTIONS:

Ticknall village is on the A514 from Derby to Swadlincote. The Staff of Life is approximately
200 yards past the entrance to Caike Abbey just on the B5006 to Ashby-de-la-Zouch. There
is plenty of parking at the pub; please use the rear of the car park.

WALK:
Attended by 12 members, plus one who came just for the beer.
Approximately 7 miles (2 1/2 hours walking time) of easy going countryside bridleways and
footpaths. We go through Caike Abbey Estate then towards Melbourne by Staunton Harold
Reservoir before returning via woods and fields to Ticknall. There is one potentially muddy
section but no steep climbs this time!! A map of the walk will be provided.

The Staff of Life is an excellent country Inn with a good selection of food (and hot puddings,
I'm assured David!!) and ales. We will order our main meals before we set off on the walk.
