PILSLEY VILLAGE, CHATSWORTH, DERBYSHIRE, Thursday 16 September 2004

Groundhog Day in Derbyshire, but this time the weather was perfect: sunshine, light winds and cool enough so that we didn't overheat up the mountain side before Pilsley on the way back. Martin once again organised the walk, which was in the same area as the walk that we did in terrible conditions in July and again starting from the Devonshire Arms in Pilsley.

DIRECTIONS:
Pilsley village is on the Chatsworth Estate just opposite the entrance to the Chatsworth Farm Shop. It can be reached from Chesterfield via A619 to Baslow / Bakewell then the B6012 to Chatsworth. Do not take the right turn to Bakewell, keep straight on and take the next right turn to Pilsley, with a thatched cottage on your right (road marked not suitable for HGV’s). It can also be reached off the A6 Matlock to Bakewell road along the B6012 to Baslow, going past Beeley Village, through Chatsworth Park and taking left turn past Edensor village on the B6048 signed PlIsley and Bakewell. The pub car park is very small and there is plenty of road parking nearby.

WALK:

The walk is approximately 6 easy going miles via lanes and footpaths from Pilsley to Edensor and then through Chatsworth Park to Baslow retuming to PilsIey. Click on the route map to see a larger version. Plenty of variety on the walk - roads, rough tracks, fields and Chatsworth's front garden. Not too strenuous though, a group even found time to go shopping in Baslow
