Around Mugginton, Derbyshire. Thursday 16 November 2006

Gentlemen, it’s time once again, before Santa comes down the chimney, for us to put on those walking boots and head off on a r…amble this time around mid Derbyshire.

START POINT: The Tiger Inn, Ashbourne Road, Turnditch, Derbyshire tel: 01773 550200

The walk is based upon the Cock Inn at Mugginton, however on the preparatory walk Keith, Trevor and myself discovered a slight problem … the Cock Inn had shut its doors for good the previous week … yes gentlemen a bit of a ‘cock-up’!  We decided to still do this lovely walk but have all refreshments at the Tiger Inn at Turnditch then take a 5 minute drive to and from Mugginton.

Assemble for tea/coffee at the Tiger Inn, Turnditch then drive to and park up near to the Cock Inn at Mugginton with the walk to start from there at 10.45am.

DIRECTIONS TO THE TIGER INN, TURNDITCH:  Take the A517 Belper to Ashbourne Road.  The Tiger Inn is on the right hand side of the road at the top of the hill virtually through Turnditch.

DIRECTIONS TO THE COCK INN, MUGGINTON: Turn right out of the Tiger Inn car park back on to the A517 and continue to Cross o’ th’ hands and take a left turn (signed to Weston Underwood / Mugginton).  The Cock Inn is then approx. 2 miles on the right.

WALK:  The walk is some 5 miles through some lovely mid Derbyshire countryside with good views most of the way.  It is largely on paths and bridleways and incorporates the villages of Mugginton and Weston Underwood.  There are a couple of gentle climbs and some potentially muddy spots!!
