Monsal Trail and Wye Valley, Bakewell, Derbyshire 19 April 2007

Another good turnout for this ramble organised once again by Martin. 17 members made the trip from Bakewell along the Monsall Trail and Wye Valley via Ashford. The walk is an easy going 5½ miles with hardly any hills to climb but with spectacular views of those around.
We were accompanied along the Monsal Trail for quite a way by a group of ladies in saris and with not a single walking boot or walking pole between them and many carrying their lunches in shopping bags. They were embarked on an 8 mile trek and probably wouldn't even be having any Peake ale at the end.....

START POINT: Devonshire Arms, Pilsley nr Chatsworth, Derbyshire
DE45 1UL tel: 01629 583258. We started at our old favourite the Devonshire Arms in Pilsley and took a 5 minute drive to our start point in Bakewell.

DIRECTIONS TO PILSLEY: Coming from Chesterfield - take the A619 to Baslow and then the B6012 and B6048 to Pilsley. Coming from Matlock - take A6 to Rowsley then the B6012 through Chatsworth Park and the B6048 to Pilsley.

FROM PILSLEY TO BAKEWELL: Take the B6048 coming down behind Bakewell Golf Club. Park in the Monsal Trail Car Park at the old Bakewell Station which is Pay & Display, or alternatively if there is space, you can park on the road adjacent for free.

WALK: Starting from the former Bakewell Station take the Monsal Trail and then go via Churchdale Hall to Ashford and then follow the Wye Valley into Bakewell. The walk is an easy going 5½ miles with hardly any hills to climb but with spectacular views of those around. Click on the map, right to see an enlarged version.
