Holymoorside & Hipper Valley, nr Chesterfield 25 September 2008
posterThe latest meeting of the Treacle Sponge (& Custard) Appreciation Society was attended by 15 members. Martin organised the walk and claimed that there were "...a couple of gentle climbs". A few members - lead by Gerry - felt this was a bit inaccurate - there was only one gentle climb but it was continuous for most of the walk.

The poster, right, was spotted along the way - apparently the earlier 'recce' walk hadn't gone well....

DIRECTIONS:
Coming from Chesterfield - take the A619 road to Bakewell and Baslow. The walk is on the outskirts of Chesterfield (off the main Chatsworth/Baslow Road) so after all the shops you will pass Somersall Lane on your left and opposite Brookfield School on your right - followed by left turnings for Brookside Glen then Brookside Bar. Take the next left turn (Holymoor Road) to Holymoorside. After approx 1 mile you will see  the Village Hall and Recreation Ground on the left - the Bulls Head is next door on the corner with Walton Back Lane - to approach turn left and then immediate left into the pub car park.

WALK:  This is a relatively easy walk of just over 5 miles. There are a couple of gentle climbs and one steepish descent … nothing to trouble anyone.  Scenery will include woodland, open fields and moorland with excellent views.  The going is good underfoot with a couple of boggy sections in wet conditions.

The Bulls Head serves good pub grub and is one of CAMRA’s favourites!!
