Wigley & Linacre Reservoirs, Nr. Chesterfield - Thursday 22 May 2008

team photo, Fox & Goose WigleyMartin organised this ramble through the Derbyshire countryside on the moorland edge and Linacre reservoirs to the west of Chesterfield.

The Fox and Goose pub had a problem providing morning refreshments so an ex Home Service Adviser (one that is dear to Martin's heart....) kindly stepped in to provide and dispense with a smile - tea, coffee and home made scones.

START POINT: Fox and Goose Inn, Pudding Pie Hill, Wigley, Chesterfield S42 7JJ
Tel: 01246 566335.

area mapDIRECTIONS: Coming from Chesterfield - take the A619 to Baslow. Take a signed right turn to Wadshelf village.  Go through village on School Lane until you come to a T junction (Wigley village school on your left).  Turn left and the Fox and Goose is 50 yards on your right.  There is plenty of parking available in the pub car park.

route of walkWALK:
This is an easy going walk of just over 5 miles on bridleways and footpaths on the edge of the Peak District National Park to the west of Chesterfield.  There is a wide variety of flora and fauna and the scenery includes open moorland, woodland and the reservoirs all with splendid views.  The going is good underfoot with a just a couple of potentially boggy bits and one gradual ascent.

The Fox and Goose at Wigley, which is run by Len Badger … ex Sheffield Utd, England under 21’s and yes most importantly Chesterfield footballer, serves good pub grub and an excellent selection of ales.
