The walk starts at the Rose & Crown, Main Road, Cotgrave,
NG12 3HQ, tel. 0115 989 2245

Coffee & bacon cobs will be available from 10.00, with the usual start at 10.30.

Northern and Southern visitors are best approaching Cotgrave from the A46.
If you’re coming from the M1 or West, best to set out early!

The route takes us down a bridle way and across 2 fields to the partially-restored Nottingham – Grantham Canal.  From there, all the walking is on good paths and tracks.  Once into the Country Park, we take a circular route around the old colliery site.  Work on reclaiming, landscaping and tree-planting was completed in 2001, and we can now enjoy the results.  There are some fine views over the Trent Valley, but the walking is easy with only a few gentle slopes.  With little in the way of mud or vegetation to hamper us, it may be a chance for shorts and tee-shirts, weather permitting.  The length of the walk is approx. 6 miles, but the level walking and lack of stiles make it the usual 2 hour stroll.
