CUTTHORPE AND SUDBROOK VALLEY, NR. CHESTERFIELD THURSDAY 15 JULY 2010

Gentlemen, it’s that time once again as the sun continues to shine hopefully!! …. for our next amble through the Derbyshire countryside.

Gate Inn, CutthorpeSTART POINT: The Gate Inn, near Cutthorpe, Chesterfield S42 7BA.  Tel: 01246 276923

TIME: 10.00am assemble for coffee/tea and biscuits with our walk to follow at approx. 10.30am.
The Gate Inn serves very good food and has an excellent selection of local ales.

DIRECTIONS: Coming from Chesterfield - take the A619 to Bakewell/Baslow. You will pass Brookfield School on your right and will shortly leave the houses behind climbing a fairly steep hill into more open countryside.  After passing the right hand turn for Wadshelf village take your next right turn at the crossroads signed to Cutthorpe (7.5 T Weight Limit road).  After 0.4 miles, go straight ahead at the next junction.  After 0.5 miles turn right at the junction onto the B6050 signed to Cutthorpe.  Continue on this road for 1.5 miles (taking in the magnificent views over towards Sheffield en route).  The Gate Inn is on your left hand side with a large car park down a side lane just past the pub.

WALK:  The walk, at just under 5 miles, is a bit up and down by the nature of the terrain but nothing steep.  There are a wide variety of flora and fauna and the scenery includes moorland, woodland and open fields with really wonderful views.  The going at the time of going to press is good under foot on quiet lanes and footpaths and is ‘shorts friendly’.

Cheers, Martin
