This walk started from Aston on Trent, Derby. It’s 5 miles long on flat terrain and includes a stroll of about two and a half miles canalside from Shardlow.

How to get there:
The simplest route is via the M1, leaving at Junction 24 if you’re coming from the south and junction 24a if you’re coming from the north. Both exits lead you to Warren Lane Roundabout where you take the 2nd or 3rd exit (depending on whether you’re coming from the north or south) onto the A50 which is signposted Stoke, Derby, Lockington, Castle Donington, Shardlow.
Leave the A50 at the first exit and follow the signs for Shardlow. Go over the ‘one-way’ bridge at Shardlow Marina and keep straight on until you get to the ‘Dog and Duck’ pub on your left hand side.
Turn left , signposted Aston on Trent, and it’s a straight road into Aston. Turn right just after the village Post Office (which is on your left) onto The Green. You’ll see The Malt in front of you, with parking at the rear. Alternatively, there’s plenty of street parking around the pub.
