Aston on Trent Wednesday 22 October 2014

Our next walk will be around Aston on Trent, near Derby. We will start from The Malt pub in Aston and the walk is about 5 miles long, much of it alongside the Trent and Mersey Canal (but different from our previous walk from  there. One of the reasons for the location of the walk is to keep everyone away from the horrendous M1 motorway works further north.)

The meeting time is our usual one of 10.00 am for a 10.30 am start.

The simplest route is via the M1, leaving at Junction 24 if you’re coming from the south and junction 24a if you’re coming from the north. Both exits lead you to a roundabout where you take the exit onto the A50 signposted Stoke, Derby, Lockington, Castle Donington, Shardlow. Leave the A50 at the first exit and follow the signs for Shardlow. Go over the ‘one way’ bridge at Shardlow Marina and keep straight on until you get to the ‘Dog and Duck’ pub on your left hand side. Turn left, signposted Aston on Trent, and it’s a straight road into Aston. Take the first right just after the village Post Office (which is on your left) onto The Green (one way). You’ll see The Malt in front of you, with parking at the rear. Alternatively, there’s plenty of street parking around the pub.

The contact details for The Malt are: 14 The Green, Aston on Trent, Derby, DE72 2AA,

As before, the pub owner has asked that we pre-order our main meals from the menu (click here) Could you please let me know by Monday 20th ( if you haven’t already done so)  whether you will be attending, together with your choice of meal if you are.
