BEELEY & CHATSWORTH ESTATE, Wednesday 5th October 2016

Gentlemen, time to head off into the Derbyshire countryside before the clocks go back, dark nights are here and many of us journey to sunnier climes!!

Details of the walk are as follows:

START POINT: Grouse and Claret, Station Road, Rowsley Nr. Bakewell DE4 2EB
                           Tel: 01629 733233

TIME: 10.00am assemble for tea/coffee at the Grouse and Claret with the walk to start at 10.30am.

DIRECTIONS:
An easy one to find!!  The Grouse and Claret is a large pub on the main A6 at Rowsley some 5 miles past Matlock and 3 miles from Bakewell.

If approaching from Matlock the Grouse and Claret is on the right hand side of the main A6 approximately 100 yards past the B6012 turning for Chatsworth and is next to the main bridge over the River Derwent.  PLEASE PARK IN THE LEFT HAND CAR PARK AS YOU ENTER.

WALK:

I’ve had to change the originally planned walk as on a reccé today with Hilary we found ourselves nearly over the boot tops in bovine slurry for the last 250 yards of the walk – good job we checked!!  The new walk, which is approx. 4½ miles, will start in Beeley village which is approx. 1 mile from the pub so we will share cars from the Grouse and Claret to the start.  We will then cross the fields to Calton Lees on the Chatsworth Estate, walking via ‘Russian Cottage’ and Edensor village then returning to Beeley through Chatsworth Park beside the River Derwent.  There is one steady climb involved with good conditions underfoot however I would recommend boots/walking shoes.  There are marvellous views throughout.
