Aston on Trent 14th December 2022

The date was in your diaries so we thought a walk and pub lunch instead, as an alternative to Xmas shopping and baking mince pies, after the postponement of our ‘Xmas Do’ in Nottingham, due to the rail strike.

I have found a previous watering hole that still has room at the Inn in December ... The Malt at Aston on Trent, which we last visited in January 2018 on a very rainy day.  The meeting time is our usual one of 10.00 am for a 10.30 am start.

The simplest route is via the M1, leaving at Junction 24 if you’re coming from the south and Junction 24a if you’re coming from the north. Take the A50, signposted Stoke, Derby, Lockington, Castle Donington, Shardlow. Leave the A50 at the first exit and follow the sign for Shardlow. Go over the ‘one way’ bridge at Shardlow Marina and keep straight on until you get to the ‘Dog and Duck’ pub on your left hand side. Turn left, signposted Aston on Trent, and it’s a straight road into Aston. Turn right onto The Green (one way). You’ll see The Malt in front of you, with parking at the rear.

The contact details for The Malt are:

Address: – 14 The Green, Aston on Trent, Derby, DE72 2AA.
Tel: – 01332 799116.

The walk on the day will be between 3 and 4 miles of flat walking near to the Trent and Mersey canal.  I will finalise the actual details dependent on weather on the day and ground conditions ... no more rain please!
