Ticknall and Caulke Abbey - Thursday 4 June 2026

Two and a half weeks after his partial knee replacement and already he’s got me back typing and collating your replies gentlemen.  The op went very well and he's making good progress towards the day he can kneel again in the garden. Hilary

By popular concensus we are revisiting previous walks around Calke Abbey.  Tony Golden has kindly booked us in at The Wheel in Ticknall for our refreshments and lunch.

START POINT: The Wheel Inn 50 Main Street Ticknall DE73 7JZ Phone: 01332 864488.

TIME: 10.00am assemble for tea/coffee at The Wheel Inn

DIRECTIONS: Ticknall is on the A514, midway between Derby, Melbourne and Ashby. Sat Nav: DE73 7JZ

There is parking at the rear of the pub but also opposite there is free parking at Ticknall village hall car park.

WALK: The walk will be from the pub around Calke Abbey grounds on easy going pathways and will be just over 3 miles. Lunch will be back at The Wheel.

NB: For anyone who doesn’t want to do the main walk Calke Abbey is a National Trust property which opens daily at 11.00am with plenty of short walks around the gardens there or else visit the house or have another coffee.
